TBS Round 5 of Regular Season- May 27, 2021
The fans could enjoy quite many interesting games in the last round. The round ended with change at the leadership position and favorites losing the games. Here is the last round review presented by ESL.
San Lazaro - Los Prados 98-92 TBS top team - San Lazaro (5-2) added another victory to their record. This time they beat eighth ranked Los Prados (0-7) 98-92. American players dominated the game. The best player for the winners was forward Raphiael Putney (207-90, college: UMass) who scored 22 points and 8 rebounds. Point guard Greg Foster (190-89, college: SVSU) chipped in 18 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists. San Lazaro's coach Freddy Sanchez let to play all 12 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Guard Elvin Rodriguez Jr (188, college: USAO) produced 23 points and DJ Laster (199-96, college: Gardner-Webb) added 16 points and 10 rebounds respectively for the guests. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. San Lazaro maintains first place with 5-2 record, which they share with Mauricio Baez and Barias. Los Prados at the other side still closes the standings with seven games lost. Second ranked Barias (5-2) got a very close home victory over 3rd placed Mauricio Baez (5-2). Barias managed to escape with a 3-point win 92-89 in the fight for the first place. It was a key game for the top position in the league. Swingman LJ Figueroa (198-98, college: Oregon) nailed a double-double by scoring 28 points and 10 rebounds for the winning side and American forward Tony Mitchell (203-92, college: N.Texas) accounted for 21 points and 11 rebounds. Barias' coach Cristian Arias used entire bench in such tough game. Naturalized American guard Gerardo Suero (196-89, college: Albany) came up with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 13 rebounds and forward Juan Miguel Suero (196-93) added 19 points and 7 rebounds respectively for Mauricio Baez in the defeat. Five Mauricio Baez players scored in double figures. Barias keep a position of league leader, which they share with San Lazaro and Mauricio Baez. Second defeat of league's leader San Lazaro (5-2) against sixth ranked Huellas (4-3) 108-84 was the most important game of the last round. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of San Lazaro. Huellas made 16-of-21 free shots (76.2 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 29 assists. American forward Jonathan Holton (202-91, college: WVU) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 22 points, 16 rebounds and 5 assists. His fellow American import Jordan Williams (198-92, college: N.Texas) contributed with 33 points (!!!) and 5 rebounds for the winners. Four Huellas players scored in double figures. Guard Oscar Cabrera (193-95, college: Daytona St.) answered with 15 points and 5 assists and American-Puerto Rican swingman Justin Reyes (193-95, college: STAC) added 13 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for San Lazaro. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Huellas moved-up to fourth place, which they share with San Carlos. San Lazaro at the other side still keeps top position with two games lost. They were joined at the leadership position by Mauricio Baez who have the same record. Barias made 23-of-30 free shots (76.7 percent) during the game. They also forced 25 El Million turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. El Million was plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. American Paris Bass (203-95, college: Detroit) orchestrated the victory by scoring 16 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. Swingman LJ Figueroa (198-98, college: Oregon) contributed with 18 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. Swingman Jassel Perez (193-1) answered with 18 points and 7 rebounds and Emmanuel Martinez added 14 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists in the effort for El Million. Five Barias and four El Million players scored in double figures. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Barias keep a position of league leader, which they share with San Lazaro and Mauricio Baez. El Million lost third consecutive game. They keep the seventh place with five games lost. Mauricio Baez defeated 5th ranked Bameso at home 90-82. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Bameso. American swingman AJ Davis (206-95, college: UCF) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 10 rebounds for the winners and his fellow American import forward James White (204-93, college: Georgia Tech) chipped in 19 points and 10 rebounds. Four Mauricio Baez players scored in double figures. Mauricio Baez's coach Melvyn Lopez allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Guard Miguel Dicent (190-94, college: Morehead St.) responded with 18 points and 6 assists (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field) and Nigerian-American power forward Ikechukwu Diogu (204-83, college: Arizona St.) scored 16 points and 9 rebounds. As mentioned above they are at the top of the standings, which they share with San Lazaro and Barias. Bameso at the other side dropped to the sixth place with four games lost. This time they could not use their home court advantage losing their seventh consecutive match to sixth ranked San Carlos (4-3) 91-74 on Wednesday evening. Guard Jhery Matos (196-96, college: Charlotte) orchestrated the victory by scoring 24 points and 8 rebounds. American center Isaiah Austin (216-93, college: Baylor, agency: Slash Sports) contributed with 20 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. Five San Carlos players scored in double figures. Forward Anyeuri Castillo (201-97, college: USC Aiken) answered with 20 points and 5 rebounds and American DJ Laster (199-96, college: Gardner-Webb) added 22 points in the effort for Los Prados. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. San Carlos have a solid series of four victories in a row. They moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Huellas. Loser Los Prados still closes the standings with seven games lost.
